Centrifugal Compressors – Surge Control

In the case of air compressors, surge control is often accomplished by a discharge blow-off valve, regulated to maintain the required minimum flow to the compressor. This is based on a minimum flow setting and is applicable only for units operating at constant inlet conditions. In most applications, however, it is necessary to recycle flow back to the suction, through a bypass cooler, in order to maintain stable operation. Consult a company specialist for assistance in selecting an appropriate control system.
